She acknowledges the burden of balancing the desire of the patient with the personal views of the carer. She explores the tensions between compassion versus suffering, individualism with community, and the sanctity of life versus mortality and finitude.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/journeyonline.com.au\/features\/reflecting-on-voluntary-assisted-dying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reflecting on Voluntary Assisted Dying &#8211; JourneyOnline<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Writing in advance of the passing of Victoria\u2019s legislation, leading author and theological educator, Rev. Assoc. Professor Jason Goroncy explores the Christian view on living and dying. Whilst he affirms the sanctity of life, he explores the notion of life not being its own end, concluding that ultimately the responsibility lies with God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vox.divinity.edu.au\/opinion\/voluntary-assisted-dying-is-not-a-black-and-white-issue-for-christians-they-can-in-good-faith-support-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Voluntary assisted dying is not a black-and-white issue for Christians \u2013 they can, in good faith, support it \u2013 Vox (divinity.edu.au)<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In\u00a0<em>Dying without a Script<\/em>, Goroncy discusses the theological complexities of two key areas around Voluntary Assisted Dying. The first relates to the autonomy and rights of the individual. The second considers the sacredness of God\u2019s gift of life and what it means to be human.\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cruciality.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/goroncy-dying-without-a-script.-some-theological-reflections-on-voluntary-assisted-dying-colloquium-2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2019_51_Colloquium_v1.indb (wordpress.com)<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Revd. Dr. Gregory Seach of the Anglican Diocese of Perth explores dying in the context of Christ\u2019s life, death and resurrection. He goes on to consider our insatiable appetite to control our lives \u2013 and our death \u2013 in the context of the fear of dying.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.advocacy.perth.anglican.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/The-Gift-of-Life-Some-Christological-Reflections-the-Revd-Dr-Gregory-Seach.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The-Gift-of-Life-Some-Christological-Reflections-the-Revd-Dr-Gregory-Seach.pdf (anglican.org)<\/a><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Presbyterian Church of Queensland provides a number of resources which explore how Christians think about death, suffering and euthanasia in the light of the Gospel. This paper explores Voluntary Assisted Dying from two perspectives. The first is an understanding of how a \u2018good death\u2019 is viewed by western society which is seen as driving the desire for euthanasia.
